I hate Christmas time. It’s commercial, and it’s only a way for businesses to make money. How many times have you heard people express those sentiments? They’d rather forget about Christmas all together and wipe the holidays off the calendar. I’m considering going over to their side. If I’m going to forget Christmas and the holiday season, I’ll need a list of things to forget. Here’s what I have on my list so far:
Forget about what all people have in common. Make our differences into problems.
Forget about putting your own problems aside for a moment. Don’t give any help or support to someone who needs you to get through their difficulties.
Forget about helping others who are less fortunate than we are.
Forget about being in touch with people we love.
Forget about taking a little time to show kindness and respect for other people.
Forget about how much enjoyment you can get from celebrating. Mope around the house and feel sorry for yourself.
Forget about honoring family traditions or starting new ones.
Forget about bringing people together for reconciliation.
Forget about the look of wonderment and joy on children’s faces at this time of year.
Forget about peace and good will.
Some of us celebrate for religious reasons and others don’t. You’ll find children who believe in Santa Claus and others who have never heard of him. These differences shouldn’t be a reason to forget about the spirit of the season. We can believe in different things and still celebrate life. It’s up to you if want to forget about the holidays. You can use my list to get you started on your own list of things you hate. As for me, I’m throwing my list away and enjoying the spirit of this special time of year.
